Each year, the College of Business Administration (CBA) awards approximately $500,000
in scholarships to current undergraduate students pursuing a degree in CBA. While
academic standing plays a large part in awarding scholarships, other factors such
as financial need, major, membership in student organizations within the College,
and special interests, etc., are also used to determine recipients.
Application & Qualification
Apply for upper-class scholarships on your
WAM. The deadline is February 1 of every year.
To qualify for CBA scholarships, business students must:
- be enrolled full-time as a CBA student at the time of application
- a drop to part-time status will result in a loss of the scholarship
- be enrolled full-time as a CBA student at the time the scholarship is paid
- mid-year graduates will receive only one semester of support
- have completed 12 hours of credit in CBA by January 1
CBA Upper-Class Scholarships
After completing one summer and/or fall semester of UNL course work as a CBA student,
you will become eligible for CBA Upper-Class Scholarships. As you complete the Upper-Class
Scholarship Application (USA), you will respond to a series of questions related
to CBA-specific scholarships. Your responses to these questions determine your eligibility
for CBA scholarships. Through a computerized process, scholarships are awarded to
the best-matched applicant.
Need-Based Scholarships
To determine your eligibility for need-based scholarships, you must complete
the University of Nebraska Upper-Class Scholarship Application (as noted above)
as well as a current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). For questions
regarding this process, please refer to the Office of Scholarships and
Financial Aid website. Scholarships are awarded to the best-matched, need-based
applicant based on results of the FAFSA and USA (upper-class scholarship application).
Departmental Scholarships
There are several departmental-specific scholarships that are awarded through the
upper-class scholarship application process. Some departments, however, have scholarships
with a separate application/selection process. You will be notified of these opportunities
throughout the year and you may wish to check the departmental website for further
information. This is specifically true for
actuarial science scholarships.
Business/Professional Scholarships
In addition to general scholarships offered by the College, businesses and professional
organizations award scholarships to CBA students, ranging between $500 and
$2,500 per year. You must complete the résumé portion of the upper-class
scholarship application to be considered for most of these.
Other scholarships are periodically announced throughout the year by private organizations
such as Farm Credit, Nebraska Realtors, Nebraska Chamber, etc.). Announcements for
these scholarships are made via the college newsletter (NUZ2UZ) that you receive
every Monday through your designated email. Separate applications and deadlines
may apply.
Study Abroad Scholarships
Study abroad scholarships are also
available by:
- completing the Upper-class Scholarship Application (USA) (you will respond to specific
study abroad questions)
- through special announcements via NUZ2UZ (which will likely require separate applications)
- through the
International Affairs Office website with separate application processes listed
(see specifically the Wiebers and Lieding as examples)
New-Student (Freshman) Scholarships
Scholarship funding is made possible through the generous giving of our college
donors. A majority of these dollars are dedicated to students who demonstrate their
ability to perform in the UNL academic environment. A very limited number of dollars
are available for new CBA students both in a general category and a few for those
in a specific academic disciplines. We currently are awarding $1,000 each to the
top 20 students based on ACT guaranteeing ACT's of 34 or higher.
New-Student (Transfer) Scholarships
Scholarship funding is made possible through the generous giving of our college
donors. A majority of these dollars are dedicated to students who demonstrate their
ability to perform in the UNL academic environment. Transfer students will need
to have been enrolled and completed a semester of course work in order to become
eligible for CBA specific scholarships.

FAQ's
When will I know if I recieved a scholarship?
All University of Nebraska-Lincoln scholarship recipients can confirm their scholarship
awards by checking WAM in mid-July
and on through the start of classes. You will also receive a letter of acknowledgement
from the College of Business Administration. For additional information please visit
the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
Is my scholarship renewable?
Any renewal indications from a previous year, require you reapply for upper-class
scholarships and maintain a 3.7 cumulative GPA. You may not necessarily receive
the same scholarship or the same funding amount; however, as long as you apply and
have maintained the GPA through the fall semester, funding will be made the next
year. A change in eligibility during spring or summer may result in a change of
your award.
How will my award be made?
Distribution of most scholarships is made over the two semesters—fall and spring.
Exceptions are made for study abroad and for some of the business/professional scholarships.
With the exception of these, most scholarships require you be enrolled full-time
for BOTH semesters to receive your scholarship and award amounts will be adjusted
if you graduate mid-year. Awards will appear on WAM and be deducted from your student
bill. Any refunds will be disbursed to you from the Office of Scholarships and Financial
Aid (OSFA). For additional information please visit
OSFA.
What happens to my scholarship if I change to part-time status?
Donors specify that awards be made to full-time students. Your scholarship will
be dropped if you change to part-time status.
Can I receive the full amount of the scholarship if I am graduating mid-semester?
Donors specify full-time enrollment for almost all of our scholarships. Mid-semester
graduates will receive ½ of the yearly amount allocated.
