The award program is for actuarial science majors who are successful on the examinations
given by the Society of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society. Details available
from the Actuarial Science program office in CBA 210 (see contact information below).
Applicant must be an Actuarial Science Major, who is a U.S. Citizen or Permanent
Resident. Scholarships are based primarily on potential to succeed in Actuarial
Science and secondarily on financial need. The number of scholarships awarded and
the amount of each scholarship are dependent upon the amount of contributions available
for distribution. The allocation of these funds is determined by a subcommittee
of the Nebraska Actuaries Club’s Advisory Board for UNL’s Actuarial Science Program,
in conjunction with the Actuarial Science Program faculty. Recipients may re-apply
for the grant for one additional year. Applications are available in the CBA Undergraduate
Advising Office or on their website:
http://www.cba.unl.edu/ugrad/scholarships.aspx. Deadline to apply is March
1.
A scholarship opportunity, created for high-ability students, is the Raikes School
of Computer Science and Management. This program is designed for students with proven
leadership skills and technical aptitude. Scholarships offered through this program
cover tuition, room and board, textbooks, and are renewable with demonstrated academic
success. The Actuarial Science Program and Raikes School of Computer Science and
Management have designed a curriculum that allows Actuarial Science majors to participate
in the Raikes School of Computer Science and Management.
Created in memory of Daniel J. Ford, a 1985 UNL Actuarial Science graduate, who
passed away in 1986, this scholarship is designed to provide assistance to students
in financial need. Information regarding this scholarship is available in the Undergraduate
Advising office in the College of Business administration.
These scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshman students who demonstrate
a strong interest in the actuarial profession. Detailed information and application
forms are available at www.n-a-c.org.
Many students obtain actuarial employment on a part-time basis during the school
year with local insurance companies, or full-time during the summer with actuarial
employers from around the United States. These positions not only provide needed
income for the student, but they also provide valuable on-the-job experience.
