Once you have been admitted to the University and have qualified for admission to the College of Business Administration (CBA) (University entrance requirements plus a 2.5 cumulative gpa), your transcript will be forwarded to the CBA Undergraduate Advising Office for evaluation. This office will make the initial determination about the ability of your course work to meet the college's requirements for your degree.

The University and CBA have reviewed and evaluated the courses offered at various institutions. Because of the volume of in-state transfers we have pre identified and often computerized the transfer of certain courses from most Nebraska institutions. By Review

CBA Advising Evaluation
Staff in the College of Business Administration's Advising Office reviews all courses. Courses that are not transferred by specific agreement (as noted above) will be reviewed to determine if course work similar to our degree requirements can be used to satisfy requirements. Credit for general courses from recognized institutions may be granted by this means. If we are not able to grant credit for specific degree requirements, we may suggest that the student request departmental validation of the course work or, the evaluation may result in general elective credit.

Faculty/Departmental Review (Departmental Validation)
In a number of cases it is necessary to request that academic departments review the request for departmental validation. Normally the department will identify a professor to evaluate this work. Students should contact this individual for departmental validation/placement procedure guidelines.

Types of Credit Granted

Without respect to the method credit is granted it will normally fall into one of two types:

Direct Equivalency Credit

As the credit is evaluated it is treated, in most cases, equally with a course at UNL. The transferred course should sit in place of any requirement that the equivalent course would meet. Differences in credit hours from the transfer institution to UNL will be adjusted resulting in fewer, or possibly additional required course work. The ONE major exception is in the case of the integrative course requirements (IS); transfer courses cannot be used to meet these requirements, however, hours will be pro-rated based on the number of transfer hours.

General/Subject Area Credit

When UNL determines that they do not have a course that is the same, then they may grant credit of a general or subject area nature and may or may not allow the transferred course to substitute for a somewhat similar course or requirement. Office staff will make decisions regarding the placement of these types of credits.
