The Business Career Center staff at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business traveled with 13 students to Omaha during fall break on a career expedition. Students on this career-oriented trip visited four different employers over the course of three days and networked with dozens of industry professionals and alumni.

They also gained strategies to strengthen their campus recruiting efforts during breakout sessions and a keynote presentation.

Vicki Vopalensky ’95, ’01, grew up in North Bend, Nebraska, where hard work and helping others were part of the fabric of her life. Her father worked as the town blacksmith and farmed on evenings and weekends. Her mother supported the family business, and ran yet another business. Even her older sister modeled a strong work ethic by attending the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration and creating a successful career in accounting.

The College of Business Administration Office of Undergraduate Programs and Career Services at CBA is launching “Mid-Week Majors,” a weekly booth where students are empowered to learn more about career opportunities associated with each of the 10 undergraduate business majors. For five weeks in the fall, students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln can visit with a career coach and undergraduate academic advisor at the booth in CBA to explore interests and majors and how they connect with the career opportunities in that field.

The fifth annual University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration Employer Partners Day welcomed 79 people representing 52 companies to Innovation Campus on Tuesday, May 17. In total 113 attended the event. Career Services at CBA hosted the event and presented awards for Employer of the Year to Union Pacific Railroad, and the newly created Sue Vagts Faculty/Staff Partner of the Year to Sue Vagts, director of the UNL actuarial science program. Vagts also received the distinction of having the new award named after her.

Career Services at the College of Business Administration is accepting applications for the International Student Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) Program for the spring 2016 semester. The CRC program is a 10-week intensive career preparation program to help CBA international students discover and develop skills necessary to be successful in the U.S. job market. Upon completion of the program, students receive a Career Readiness Certificate from Career Services at CBA.

When students in a marketing class at the College of Business Administration visited Lincoln Industries this spring to learn more about how the company operates, one of the plant tour guides was a current CBA student. Jim Millar, a senior business administration major from Parker, Colorado, has been a business development intern at Lincoln Industries for more than two years, and his experience with plant operations gave him the unique ability to talk to fellow students about the company.

Adam Zahradnik left the Czech Republic in 2012 to study at the College of Business Administration on a Paul Robitschek Scholarship. Through connections he made at the college, he returned home in January with an internship at Hewlett Packard.

Through Dr. Demet Batur, assistant professor of supply chain management, he was introduced to Rob Winans at a CBA advisory board meeting. Winans, a 1997 marketing graduate and director of enterprise group and global chain transformation at Hewlett Packard, was impressed by him.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration jumped 21 spots to No. 51 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of undergraduate business programs. There were 429 schools listed in the latest rankings based on an assessment survey conducted in the spring of 2014. U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty at each undergraduate business program accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and asked them to rate the overall quality of the undergraduate business program at each university.
