Nearly 400 University of Nebraska–Lincoln students received special recognition and academic achievement awards at the College of Business Honors Ceremony on Sunday, September 17. Distributed by Dr. Donna Dudney, associate dean for undergraduate curriculum and programs and associate professor of finance, and Dr. D’vee Buss, assistant dean for undergraduate programs, 80 students received one of three awards including the William Gold Scholar Award, Clifford M. Hicks Scholar Award and James E. LeRossignol Scholar Award. Held for the first time in the fall semester and in Howard L. Hawks Hall, business students who received a total of more than $550,000 in scholarships, and seniors in the Clifton Strengths Institute Clifton Builders Program and student strength coaches were also honored.

Four students from the Center for Sales Excellence (CSE) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business received the Richard W. Chapin Scholarships for the 2017-18 school year. The students earned $2,000 each for demonstrating excellence in the CSE program. Recipients included C.J. Adamson, a senior marketing major from Hickman, Nebraska; Michael Martin, a senior marketing major from Rockford, Illinois, Kathleen O’Toole, a senior marketing major from Wilber, Nebraska; and Trevor Willenborg, a senior marketing and international business major from Elkhorn, Nebraska.

More than 850 business students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln were named to the College of Business Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2016-17 academic year. The 773 undergraduates who received this honor maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.6 or higher for the semester. The college also recognized 176 undergraduate students for achieving a 4.0 GPA.

Student entrepreneurs from across the University of Nebraska–Lincoln faced-off in the Center for Entrepreneurship New Venture Competition March 27-28 at the Nebraska Union. Students earned $67,500 in prize money, including a $50,000 grand prize. Reminiscent of the NCAA basketball March Madness tournament, teams competed in a bracket format and advanced through two preliminary rounds. After elimination rounds, four teams competed head-to-head in the finals.

The faculty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration recently approved changes to the undergraduate curriculum. Beginning in the fall of 2017, BSAD 150, Business Computer Applications will change to BSAD 50, and the Business Analytics/Information Analysis (SCMA 350) course will include an additional one-credit hour lab, SCMA 350L. BSAD 50 will provide more flexibility for students to complete the requirement in an online format, and SCMA 350/350L was updated to ensure students are best prepared for the demands of the business environment.

His crowning achievement, however, may have come when the senior management and communications studies major found out he earned one of the most prestigious honors available to a college student – a Fulbright award to teach English in Vietnam.
