Nearly 70 students had the opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial, communication and presentation skills through a short "quick pitch" proposal to a panel of entrepreneurial experts from Nebraska.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Center for Entrepreneurship will host the sixth annual 3-2-1 Quick Pitch Competition on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Memorial Stadium Club Level Suites. Student will have three minutes to pitch their proposal for a new business venture to a panel of entrepreneurial experts, all while showcasing their creativity, communication and presentation skills in a competitive format.

A record number of nearly 200 advisory board members met at the UNL College of Business Administration on Friday, September 19, for the 2014 Partnership Summit and Advisory Board meetings. Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business Administration, gave the State of the College address at the Grand Manse in downtown Lincoln where she emphasized the positive trajectories happening at CBA including business major enrollments approaching 3,900, business minors totaling about 1,500 and 35 new faculty hired in the last four years.

The Center for Entrepreneurship in the UNL College of Business Administration hosted Entrepreneuring Days@UNL March 18-20 at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln, Neb. The event included two new venture competitions and the Distinguished Entrepreneur Awards Dinner. The competitions were conducted much like the television show “Shark Tank.” Students pitched their business ideas to a panel of professionals who served as judges for feedback and competed for funding.

One of 10 teams selected for the competition, the CBA team included captain Emma Dickinson, Boston; Christopher Aumueller, Lincoln, Neb.; Oscar Del Castillo, Omaha, Neb.; and Brett Sapp, Lincoln, Neb.

Dr. Theresa Welbourne, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration, was interviewed by the online business website StartupNation to get her take on starting a business, overcoming her biggest challenges and creating a productive work environment. Welbourne, a national research leader on the subject of harnessing energy in the workplace, owns her own startup company eePulse, Inc. and teaches management courses at CBA.

Theresa Welbourne, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration, has spent much of her career studying how companies fare, post-IPO. In coming weeks, she plans to release a report detailing the 10-year survival rate of about 1,000 companies that went public in 1996, the height of the IPO frenzy that burst with the dotcom bubble in 2001.
