Harris Lecture Series featuring John Mackey on Wednesday, October 5, 1:30-2:30 p.m., at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Mackey is co-founder and co-CEO of Whole Foods Market, his supermarket chain became the first in the United States certified as an organic grocer. He authored the book “Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business,” which appeared on best-selling lists for both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration students won the Nebraska ACG Cup competition held April 14, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The annual financial case study competition pits competing teams from UNL, UNO, Creighton University and Bellevue University. The Nebraska chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) hosts the competition which gives students experience analyzing topics of mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advising and private equity. The ACG is a network of bankers, investors, attorneys, accountants and others who work in mergers and acquisitions.

Dr. Murray has been invited to present this work at several prestigious events attended by top finance practitioners such as hedge fund and mutual managers, as well as leaders in the academic finance research community. Over the next few months, Dr. Murray and his co-authors will showcase their work at the Q-Group (The Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance) spring seminar, the Society for Financial Studies Cavalcade conference, and the Western Finance Association Meeting, which accepted only 144 of more than 1700 papers submitted. They have also been awarded the Q-Group’s Jack Treynor prize for superior research with applications in the field of investment management.

A record number of nearly 200 advisory board members met at the UNL College of Business Administration on Friday, September 19, for the 2014 Partnership Summit and Advisory Board meetings. Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business Administration, gave the State of the College address at the Grand Manse in downtown Lincoln where she emphasized the positive trajectories happening at CBA including business major enrollments approaching 3,900, business minors totaling about 1,500 and 35 new faculty hired in the last four years.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Administration jumped 21 spots to No. 51 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of undergraduate business programs. There were 429 schools listed in the latest rankings based on an assessment survey conducted in the spring of 2014. U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty at each undergraduate business program accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and asked them to rate the overall quality of the undergraduate business program at each university.

After emigrating from Czechoslovakia following World War II, Dr. Tom Zorn found a new home in America that eventually led him to the UNL College of Business Administration. Zorn spoke about his 30 year career in the finance department and talked about his future plans in retirement.
