After serving as the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business interim dean for nearly a year, Dr. Kathy Farrell became the 10th dean of the College of Business in December. In her relatively short time leading the college, Farrell has immersed herself in the job. More than 300 business students received degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as the College of Business completed the first semester in the new Howard L. Hawks Hall building. Marketing students from the College of Business tested their business acumen at the second annual Oath Advertising Knockout Challenge. A subsidiary of Verizon Communications which serves as the umbrella company of its digital content subdivisions including AOL and Yahoo!, Oath hosted the competition, November 9-10 in Omaha. Seven students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln worked together in teams with other students from Creighton University and the University of Nebraska at Omaha and presented their solutions to a panel of judges.

College of Business student Shayne Arriola turned his crowning achievement as homecoming king of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln into an extra special engagement by taking a knee and proposing to the queen. Arriola and fellow Nebraska student, Laura Springer got engaged in front of 90,000 cheering fans at halftime of the Nebraska vs. Rutgers football game at Memorial Stadium. The homecoming ceremony and surprise engagement highlighted a weekend of festivities marked by Nebraska’s 150 years of statehood.
