CBA Classroom Computer Performance Has Greatly Improved

During the 2012-13 academic year, some users encountered issues with classroom and lab computers in CBA, including problems with long boot time, performance issues, and rare CBA-wide computer outages. Complications with the UNL virtualization infrastructure (PVS) were found to be the cause of these issues. In order to resolve these issues, CBA ITS migrated CBA classroom an lab computers from the UNL virtual PVS system to a physical CBA DeepFreeze system in the summer of 2013.
 
The migration was a success; the average boot time is 450% faster, the worst case boot time is 4000% faster, and there have been no CBA-wide classroom and lab computing outages, and users have reported a marked increase in the general performance of CBA classroom and lab machines. There are additional upgrades and improvements to be done that are discussed in a below section in this newsletter.
