Two notable College of Business Administration faculty at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will present a new executive Power Lunches Series this summer. Dr. Fred Luthans, University and George Holmes Distinguished Professor of Management Emeritus, kicks off the schedule with a UNL Power Lunch entitled “The Power of Positive Leadership” on June 15. Dr. Emre Unlu, Paul C. Burmeister Professor of Investments and associate professor of finance, will follow with a UNL Power Lunch entitled “Understanding the Ingredients of Finance” on June 22 as a preview of the three-day Certificate in Finance and Accounting for Non-Financial Professionals program, July 20-22.

The fifth annual University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration Employer Partners Day welcomed 79 people representing 52 companies to Innovation Campus on Tuesday, May 17. In total 113 attended the event. Career Services at CBA hosted the event and presented awards for Employer of the Year to Union Pacific Railroad, and the newly created Sue Vagts Faculty/Staff Partner of the Year to Sue Vagts, director of the UNL actuarial science program. Vagts also received the distinction of having the new award named after her.

Ana Lucía Córdova Cazar, a Ph.D. candidate in the College of Business Administration Survey Research and Methodology Program (SRAM) program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, won a $400 travel grant for her poster presentation at the spring Graduate Research and Creative Activities Poster Session. The UNL Office of Research and Economic Development and Office of Graduate Studies presented the award.

The Center for Sales Excellence at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration was named as a 2016 “Top University for Professional Sales Education” by the Sales Education Foundation (SEF). Recognized for preparing students for careers in professional selling and helping to elevate the sales profession, the program teaches students how to sell themselves to employers, pitch their ideas and enhance their communication skills.

A new event helped kick off Commencement festivities at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as more than 300 people attended the inaugural College of Business Administration Senior Sendoff Friday, May 6, at The Railyard in Lincoln’s Haymarket District. The college’s graduating seniors, along with their families and friends, and faculty and staff, were invited to the event to celebrate the graduates.

To say Kevin Thor’s résumé as a student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration is robust is an understatement. From traveling the world by sea or by land to serving as national secretary for Phi Beta Lambda to meeting with senators and congressmen in Washington D.C., there is little he has set out to do that he hasn’t accomplished. His crowning achievement, however, may have come when the senior management and communications studies major found out he earned one of the most prestigious honors available to a college student – a Fulbright award to teach English in Vietnam.

Dr. Fred Luthans, University and George Holmes Distinguished Professor of Management Emeritus at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration, was honored with two awards for his work in the fields of organizational behavior, management and psychology. Luthans received the Harvard Impact Global Health Catalyst (GHC) Distinguished Leader Award at the Harvard Medical School GHC Summit April 29, and will accept the Individual Contributor Award May 19 at the Best Places to Work in Omaha luncheon.

Career Services at CBA hosted a graduation celebration April 22 for 10 University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration students who completed the Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) program. The program is a 10-week, intensive career preparation program designed to assist international sophomore and junior business students in finding internships or full-time employment in the United States as well as connect students to applicable campus and community resources.
 

UNL Students Capture Over 40 Awards at PBL State Conference

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln chapter of Phi Beta Lambda won more than 40 awards while competing at the Nebraska PBL State Leadership Conference in Kearney, Nebraska, April 1-2. Students who placed at the state conference qualified for the National PBL conference in Atlanta later this summer. At the national competition, students compete in business and technology events, attend leadership workshops and network with students and businesses from across the country.

Co-Winners Share $3,000 in Target Case Competition

Two teams of undergraduate students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration were named co-winners of the Target Case Competition held April 22. Each team received $1,500. The money was split between the teams’ respective student organizations: the American Marketing Association (AMA) and the Multicultural Business Student Association (MBSA).

Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business Administration, presented 19 students with their certificates in sales excellence at a celebration at Misty’s restaurant in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, on April 25. More than 100 students enrolled in the program since it began in August 2014.

More than 75 University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration students received awards for academic achievement at the 2016 CBA Honors Ceremony on Sunday, April 24. Dr. Donna Dudney, associate dean for undergraduate programs and associate professor of finance, and Dr. D’vee Buss, assistant dean for undergraduate programs, distributed the awards, including the William Gold Scholarship Keys, the Clifford Hicks Honor Keys, the LeRossignol Scholar Awards and the Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Keys.

Through an ongoing partnership with the Clifton Foundation and Gallup, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration Donde Plowman has appointed Dr. Larry J. Williams as director of the Survey Research and Methodology (SRAM) program, Donald and Shirley Clifton Chair of Survey Science and professor of management.
