The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration now offers students a new way to gain international perspective with a minor in global leadership. The minor, open to all undergraduate students, incorporates a study abroad component and courses in business, management and economics taught with a global context.
An extension of the college’s international business major, the minor gives students an opportunity to identify global opportunities to create, expand or re-energize organizations and initiatives through coursework with a global focus. Students will study topics ranging from leadership in a global context, poverty and developing economies, and business strategies and structures taught with an international perspective. Students will also study abroad to experience first-hand and apply global cultural knowledge gained in coursework in any of the global immersion programs available across the world.
“The global leadership minor from the College of Business prepares students to identify or create opportunities in a global landscape. Students learn how to become global leaders and are better prepared when dealing with different cultures in today’s society,” said Dr. J.K. Osiri, associate professor of practice in management and director of the international business program.
The 12-hour global leadership minor joins three other CBA minors available to non-business majors: business analytics, entrepreneurship, and general business. These minors, in addition to a certificate in sales offered by the Center for Sales Excellence, give students at Nebraska an opportunity to build a foundation in business outside of the skills gained from their undergraduate programs.
“Learning about global issues and studying abroad expand a student’s perspective and views. Having experience abroad and understanding cultural differences in business practice is invaluable to businesses and also provides an advantage over others in the job market,” said Dr. Donna Dudney, associate dean for undergraduate programs and student engagementand associate professor of finance.
