Nearly 400 University of Nebraska–Lincoln students received special recognition and academic achievement awards at the College of Business Honors Ceremony on Sunday, September 17. Distributed by Dr. Donna Dudney, associate dean for undergraduate curriculum and programs and associate professor of finance, and Dr. D’vee Buss, assistant dean for undergraduate programs, 80 students received one of three awards including the William Gold Scholar Award, Clifford M. Hicks Scholar Award and James E. LeRossignol Scholar Award. Held for the first time in the fall semester and in Howard L. Hawks Hall, business students who received a total of more than $550,000 in scholarships, and seniors in the Clifton Strengths Institute Clifton Builders Program and student strength coaches were also honored.

First awarded in 1925 by Mr. William Gold, founder of Gold & Co., the William Gold Scholar Award honors the top members of the freshman class. The recipients receive the awards as sophomores, but are recognized for their academic accomplishments during their freshman year. Nineteen students received the William Gold Scholar Award this year, all of them earning a cumulative 4.0 GPA during their first year of classes.

The Clifford M. Hicks Scholar Awards are named after Professor Clifford M. Hicks, who served on the College of Business Administration faculty for 43 years, and was Chairman of the Department of Business Organization and Management from 1950 until his retirement in 1968. This award recognizes the top academic standing of the sophomore class, and again recognizes the students’ prior year’s accomplishments. Twenty students received the award, which make up the top three percent of the College of Business’ current junior class.

The LeRossignol Scholar Awards honor James E. LeRossignol, who served as the first dean of the College of Business Administration from 1913 to 1941. The award recognizes the top academic accomplishments of students through their junior year. This year 39 students received the award.
