The UNL chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) recently competed at the Nebraska PBL State Leadership Conference in Kearney, Nebraska. Focusing on bringing business and education together through innovative leadership and career development programs, PBL is a post-secondary business and leadership organization of over 11,000 college students. At the State Conference, members compete in a variety of over 50 events, including job interview, accounting, computer programming, impromptu speaking, marketing, and website development, among others. Members were also able to attend informative workshops, campaign for and elect state officers, and hear a keynote speech by Erin Trausch of the March of Dimes Ambassador family prior to completing a March of Dimes mini-walk.
UNL was represented at the conference by 35 members, who achieved 80 competitive event awards. Two UNL PBL members were elected as Nebraska State Officers for the 2011-2012 year. Blake Lawrence of Hurrdat Social Media, LLC in Lincoln also received a Businessperson of the Year award. Based on the performance at the State conference, the State of Nebraska will send two members to compete on the National level in each event. Nineteen members will represent UNL at the PBL National Leadership Conference in Orlando this June. These members will compete with members from across the country in business and technology events, attend leadership workshops, and have the opportunity to network with other students and businesses.
