Nebraska Young Entrepreneur Scholars Application

Purpose

The purposes of this contest are:

  • To aid them in developing successful businesses.
  • To provide financial assistance to them while obtaining the degree of their choice at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln.

Eligibility

Each applicant must meet these qualifications:

  • Must be nominated by an adult who recognizes the student's entrepreneurial aspirations, such as: a high school guidance counselor; a business, FBLA or DECA teacher; or a Junior Achievement advisor.
  • Must currently be a high school senior in Nebraska.

Application Deadline

Applications must be received by December 12th, 2008 by mail or online.

How to Enter

To enter, simply follow the steps below:

1. Write a Personal Entrepreneurship Statement
  • Using a computer with word processing software create a single document.
  • Include your full name and the name of your high school at the top of the document.
  • Answer the questions listed below in essay form.
  • When saving the document, make sure you use your full name as the title of the document.
  • Save your document somewhere that you can retrieve it as you will need it in step 2.
  • Please include your full name and the name of your high school at the top of the document you create and make your name the title of the saved document.
  • The application entry should be approximately 150 words per category (A, B, C, and D) for a total of approximately 600 words. The page should be single-spaced.
  • Assuming you wish someday to own your own business,
    • What kind of business(es) do you own or visualize yourself owning?
    • What have you done or are you currently doing to prepare yourself to be successful?
    • What place does higher education (a college or university) play in your preparation?
  • Have any of your family members owned a business? If so, please describe.
  • Briefly describe your personal and career goal(s).
  • Describe experiences you have had in business (working for yourself or someone else) or in raising money for an organization.
2. Complete the on-line Application Form and Behavior Questionnaire
  • Make sure that you have saved the document you created in step 1. and remember where it is located
  • If the document you have created is not already closed, please close it and the word processing software you used to create it.
