CBA Parent Newsletter from Dean Plowman - 11/6/14

November is setting up to be another busy month. In addition to the start of the holiday season, we also have a number of events on the calendar. Please feel free to share these with your son or daughter.
Each fall, outstanding alumni return to campus to share their experiences and knowledge with students during UNL Masters Week. Masters Candidates are alumni who have shown great promise, success and leadership in their fields. The masters speak about ways to apply formal education to working situations and career goals. This year we are very excited to host JoAnn Martin, president and CEO of Ameritas. JoAnn graduated from CBA with her bachelor’s degree in accounting, is a member of the UNL School of Accountancy Hall of Fame and she is also a recipient of the CBA Business Leadership Award. In addition to the CBA-specific events, the Scarlet Guard invites student to celebrate 50 years of Alumni Masters on Wednesday, November 19 with a reception and Success Panel. The event will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Nebraska Champions Club.
The Dean’s Leadership Council will present Develop Yourself: Fall Series in mid-November. The council will sponsor the following events over the course of three days.
* Tuesday, November 18 – Professional Panel, 2-3 p.m.
* Wednesday, November 19 – Student Panel, 3:30-4:45 p.m.

I am certain your son or daughter is looking forward to being with family and friends this Thanksgiving holiday. We have had an amazing fall so far, and I want you to know how thankful I am that your son or daughter is a part of our community.
There are plenty of ups and downs during the first semester and the support and encouragement you give your college student means so much to them. Thanks for all you do from home to support your CBA student. As they prepare for the end of the semester, I’m sure they each have much to do and the stress may seem high. Just keep encouraging them to work hard and stay positive.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
