Assistant Professor of Practice

The School of Accountancy in the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking applicants for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice position starting Fall 2012. Applicants must have either 1) an undergraduate accounting degree, significant professional accounting experience, and a CPA license, or 2) a Master’s degree in accounting and an accounting-related professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, CFE, etc.), or 3) a doctorate in accounting or have completed all of the requirements for the Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with graduate degrees, professional licensure, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Professors of Practice are hired on multi-year contracts, renewable subject to performance. This will be an academic year (nine month) appointment and the salary is competitive.

As a member of the faculty, Professors of Practice participate (as appropriate in the governance of the School and College of Business Administration) in academic policy making, and in a variety of non-class activities such as advising students and student organizations. A successful candidate will be expected to be significantly involved in the School and College’s teaching mission and teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, depending on credentials. Teaching responsibilities typically will be 12 hours (four courses) per semester and may include large sections of undergraduate courses.

About the School of Accountancy

With the entrance into the Big Ten, the College and School are experiencing significant growth, and increased resources are allowing for a substantial number of new hires across the College. There are currently over 500 undergraduate students majoring in Accounting, approximately 50 Master’s students, and 7 doctoral students. The Public Accounting Report’s 2010 national rankings placed the UNL School of Accountancy’s undergraduate program 14th and graduate program 23rd for the midsize university category. Nebraska had the highest first-time pass rates on the national CPA Exam in 2008 and UNL School of Accountancy graduates consistently experience high first-time pass rates on the exam.
