In the Academy of Management’s Learning and Education Journal, an article using a quantitative review of a very large sample of management professors of “The Rated Importance, Scientific Validity, and Practical Usefulness of Organizational Behavior Theories,” the Luthans Organizational Behavior Modification Theory came out as one of the eight highest rated (along with theories by Lewin, McClelland, Hackman, Locke, Miner, Vroom, and Bass). 7. Introductory Bio Fred Luthans is the George Holmes Distinguished Professor of Management. He received his B.A., MBA, and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, and was a post-doc at Columbia University. He taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point prior to joining the UNL faculty in 1967. He won the College of Business Administration Distinguished Teaching Award and the University of Nebraska Excellence in Graduate Education Award. A former President of the Academy of Management, he is also the recipient of an honorary doctorate from DePaul University, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Iowa, and the Academy of Management’s Distinguished Educator Award. He is an inaugural member of the Academy of Management Hall of Fame, as well as a fellow in the Decision Sciences Institute. A prolific writer, Dr. Luthans has published 45 books, 166 articles in refereed journals, and over 200 articles and book chapters. His book, Organizational Behavior, is in its eleventh edition and is considered the first text in its field. Most recently, Dr. Luthans is researching positive organizational behavior (POB) and positive psychological capital and the effect of micro-interventions in increasing competitive advantage for today’s organizations. Luthans and his team of researchers have brought this concept and its measurement to management literature in recent publications in top-tier journals such as Personal Psychology and Journal of Management.
