Study Abroad Scholarships

A variety of scholarship opportunities are available for students wishing to study abroad. Listed below are a few study abroad scholarship opportunities that CBA students may find most appealing. Additional study abroad scholarship opportunities are available through the UNL International Affairs Office website. Scholarship deadlines depend on the specific scholarship but many deadlines occur during the spring semester.

For information regarding whether your current scholarship awards may be applied to studying abroad, please meet with a Study Abroad Financial Aid Counselor in the Scholarships and Financial Aid Office in Canfield 17.

UNL Scholarships and Financial Aid General Application
  • Apply for all CBA scholarships (including study abroad scholarship) through this application on MyRed
  • Located under the "Financial Aid" tab on MyRed (look for "Scholarship Application" on the right side menu bar)
  • Use this online application to apply for summer, fall and spring regular academic based and study abroad program scholarships
  • Application available November 1 – February 1 each year
CBA Affiliated Scholarships

The following is the list of CBA affiliated study abroad scholarships.

Edythe Wiebers International Studies Program Scholarship
  • The Wiebers scholarship subsidizes expenses accompanied with involvement in a foreign study program. One or more scholarships ranging from $1,000 (summer programs), $2,000 (semester programs) or $3,000 (year programs) are available to UNL undergraduate and/or graduate students
  • Demonstrate ability in foreign language
  • Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Have completed at least 42 semester credit hours
  • Be participating in a UNL sponsored or approved study abroad program
  • Demonstrate previous working, volunteer or extracurricular activity experience
  • Responsible for sharing study abroad experience through an informal presentation upon return
  • Deadline: February 1
  • Turn in all application materials to CBA 114
  • Application located on International Affairs webpage
Harris Scholarship
  • Travel scholarships not to exceed $1,000
  • Study abroad program sponsored by UNL
  • Academic merit, leadership and financial need
  • Deadline is February 1
  • Apply online through the general "Scholarship Application" on MyRed
  • All CBA students are considered
International Affairs Affiliated Scholarships

Christian Lieding Scholarship
  • The Christian Lieding Scholarship and Fellowship Program is intended to encourage academic/educational exchanges between the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and foreign educational institutions with special emphasis on Germany and German speaking universities.
  • Scholarships and fellowships will be available to assist UNL students to participate in study abroad programs and to assist foreign students who wish to enroll in the curricula of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25
  • Full-Time Student
  • Undergraduate and graduate students
  • Deadlines are October 1 and March 1
  • Application located on International Affairs webpage
Charlotte Kramer Scholarship
  • Enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and enrolled in a foreign study program sponsored by or approved by UNL
  • Full-time student
  • Study abroad program sponsored or approved by UNL
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2
  • At least sophomore class standing
  • Deadline is February 1 to use the following summer or academic year
  • Application located on International Affairs webpage
UNL International Affairs Discovery Scholarships
  • Study abroad program sponsored or approved by UNL
  • Study abroad program in under represented area or field of study
  • Commitment to promote UNL study abroad programs upon return
  • Scholarships not to exceed $500
  • Deadlines are October 15 and March 15
  • Application located on International Affairs webpage
Kawasaki Scholarship
  • Study at Japanese University on UNL exchange for academic year
  • In area of Japanese language
  • Deadline is January 31

Phi Beta Delta Scholarship
