College of Business Administration

Scholarships

General Information

  • Awards: Each year, the College of Business Administration (CBA) awards approximately $500,000 in scholarships to current undergraduate students pursuing a degree in CBA.
  • Criteria: While academic standing plays a large part in awarding scholarships, other factors such as financial need, major, membership in student organizations within the College, and special interests, etc., are also used to determine recipients.
  • Our Guarantee – The College will guarantee scholarship funding (with fund amounts varying each year) for all currently enrolled CBA students who meet the application and qualification requirements (item #1 below) and have a 3.7 (or higher) cumulative grade point average at the end of the spring semester.
Application & Qualifications

Apply for upper-class scholarships on your MyRED. The deadline is February 1 of every year.

To qualify for CBA scholarships, business students must:

  • be enrolled full-time as a CBA student at the time of application
a drop to part-time status will result in a loss of the scholarship
  • be enrolled full-time as a CBA student at the time the scholarship is paid
    - mid-year graduates will receive only one semester of support
  • have completed 12 hours of credit in CBA by January 1
CBA Upper-Class Scholarships
  • After completing one summer and/or fall semester of UNL course work as a CBA student, you will become eligible for CBA Upper-Class Scholarships. As you complete the Upper-Class Scholarship Application (USA), you will respond to a series of questions related to CBA-specific scholarships.
  • Your responses to these questions determine your eligibility for CBA scholarships.
  • Through a computerized process, scholarships are awarded to the best-matched applicant.
  • Our Guarantee -- The College will guarantee scholarship funding for all currently enrolled CBA students who meet the application and qualification requirements (item #1 above) and have a 3.7 cumulative grade point average at the end of the spring semester.
Need-Based Scholarships

To determine your eligibility for need-based scholarships, you must complete the University of Nebraska Upper-Class Scholarship Application (as noted above) as well as a current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). For questions regarding this process, please refer to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid website. Scholarships are awarded to the best-matched, need-based applicant based on results of the FAFSA and USA (upper-class scholarship application).

Departmental Scholarships

There are several CBA departmental-specific scholarships that are awarded through the upper-class scholarship application process. Some departments, however, have scholarships with a separate application/selection process. You will be notified of these opportunities throughout the year and you may wish to check the departmental website for further information.

Business/Professional Scholarships

In addition to general scholarships offered by the College, businesses and professional organizations award scholarships to CBA students, ranging between $500 and $2,500 per year. You must complete the résumé portion of the upper-class scholarship application to be considered for most of these.

Other scholarships are periodically announced throughout the year by private organizations such as Farm Credit, Nebraska Realtors, Nebraska Chamber, etc.). Announcements for these scholarships are made via the college newsletter (NUZ2UZ) that you receive every Monday through your designated email. Separate applications and deadlines may apply.

Study Abroad Scholarships

Study abroad scholarships are also available by:

  • completing the Upper-class Scholarship Application (USA) (you will respond to specific study abroad questions)
  • through special announcements via NUZ2UZ (which will likely require separate applications)
  • through the International Affairs Office website with separate application processes listed (see specifically the Wiebers and Lieding as examples)
New-Student (Freshman) Scholarships
  • Scholarship funding is made possible through the generous giving of our college donors.
  • The Forrest Blood Scholarship will be awarded to all newly admitted CBA freshman students who have an ACT score of 34 or higher. The scholarship will automatically appear on MyRed on or near May 1.
  • Our Guarantee – The College will guarantee scholarship funding for your remaining time in CBA as long as you reapply each year and meet the application and qualification requirements (item #1 above) and have a 3.7 cumulative grade point average (or higher) at the end of the spring semester.
New-Student (Transfer) Scholarships

Scholarship funding is made possible through the generous giving of our college donors. A majority of these dollars are dedicated to students who demonstrate their ability to perform in the UNL academic environment. Transfer students will need to have been enrolled and completed a semester of course work in order to become eligible for CBA specific scholarships.

FAQ's
When will I know if I received a scholarship?

All University of Nebraska-Lincoln scholarship recipients can confirm their scholarship awards by checking MyRED in mid-July and on through the start of classes. You will also receive a letter of acknowledgement from the College of Business Administration. For additional information please visit the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Is my scholarship renewable?

Any renewal indications from a previous year, require you reapply for upper-class scholarships and maintain a 3.7 cumulative GPA. You may not necessarily receive the same scholarship or the same funding amount; however, as long as you apply and have maintained the GPA through the Spring semester, funding will be made the next year.

How will my award be made?

Distribution of most scholarships is made over the two semesters—fall and spring. Exceptions are made for study abroad and for some of the business/professional scholarships. With the exception of these, most scholarships require you be enrolled full-time for BOTH semesters to receive your scholarship and award amounts will be adjusted if you graduate mid-year. Awards will appear on MyRED and be deducted from your student bill. Any refunds will be disbursed to you from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA). For additional information please visit OSFA.

What happens to my scholarship if I change to part-time status?

Donors specify that awards be made to full-time students. Your scholarship will be dropped if you change to part-time status.

Can I receive the full amount of the scholarship if I am graduating mid-semester?

Donors specify full-time enrollment for almost all of our scholarships. Mid-semester graduates will receive half of the yearly amount allocated.

What can I do? I forgot to apply for the upper class scholarships.

All available funding is used to make scholarship awards. If you forgot to apply, and you meet Our Guarantee criteria as well as qualifications, you can direct a request for consideration by submitting your resume, your request, and qualification summary through Ask an Adviser beginning August 1.

Our Guarantee -- The College will guarantee scholarship funding for all currently enrolled CBA students who meet the application and qualification requirements (item #1 above) and have a 3.7 cumulative grade point average at the end of the spring semester.

Scholarship Recommendation Procedures

All Scholarships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are administered by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. A few scholarships are based on the recommendations of the College of Business Administration's Scholarship, Awards and Honors Committee.

To qualify for consideration for specific CBA scholarships, students must be registered as a College of Business Administration student both at the time of application and at the time the scholarship is paid; must have completed 12 hours of credit in the College by January 1; and must have filed the "Upperclass Scholarship Application" at the website given in Step 1.

In addition to general scholarships offered by the College several businesses and professional organizations award scholarships each year to College of Business Administration students. Most of these scholarships range between $500 and $2,500 per year. Announcements for these scholarships are made periodically throughout the year, with applications available through the CBA Office for Undergraduate Programs.

If you wish to be recommended for a CBA Scholarship, complete the following steps:

Step 1

Complete and submit the "Upperclass Scholarship Application" on the Internet by February 1. To apply, log into WAM! and select the Upperclass Scholarship Application. Submission of this online application allows you to be considered for upperclass scholarships awarded by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid and to have your information made available to your college and department. The awarding of scholarships to upperclass students is based on one or several of the following criteria: cumulative grade point average, financial need, and a resume of activities. For questions regarding this process, please contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, Room 17, Canfield Administration Building, 472-2030.

Some scholarships for which the College of Business Administration makes recommendations do consider financial need. To determine your eligibility for need-based aid, you must complete the University of Nebraska Upperclass Scholarship Application (above) as well as a 2005 - 2006 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) was not filed.
